Mission and Vision

Mission

We pledge to teach the California Common Core State Standards. We will foster 21st Century Skills – Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Digital Citizenship which will prepare our Scholars for success in academics and the workplace.  We pledge to teach, model, and expect excellent behavior and social skills for the entire school community as well as the individual student.

In order to assess whether students are meeting academic and social expectations, we pledge to consistently monitor student progress through a variety of measures: observations, student work, test results, and behavior reports.

Because we honor diversity and understand student learning styles, we pledge to analyze student data, identify skills that need re-teaching, reflect upon teaching practices, and present lessons in a variety of ways.  We also commit to utilizing our resources to best support our students.

We pledge to engage students by identifying the purposes and real life application of skills they are learning.  We will encourage active participation, personal goal setting, and self-motivation both academically and socially.

Vision

Our vision is for our Highland Scholars to obtain strong academic and life skills needed to thrive in the 21st century.   We will create an atmosphere of purpose and belonging were all students and staff feel safe and respected.  A spirit of cohesiveness and respect among our school community is our goal. Together we will take responsibility for ourselves and each other in creating a safe, clean, and peaceful environment. In turn, this environment will foster and promote the expectation of high academic achievement and success for our entire school community.

Our vision is for all members of the school community to be empowered to take action in carrying out the school's mission.
