Principal's Message

A message from the Principal

Welcome to Highland Elementary!

I am looking forward to another amazing year with our students, also known as our Highland Scholars! As a Full Service Community School, we will continue to work collaboratively to ensure that all students, regardless of any challenges, receive access to an engaging and rigorous education.

We have several programs in place to support students academically and socially. Our Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) model promotes a positive school culture by reinforcing and recognizing desired student behaviors.  Our Scholars take pride in themselves when they demonstrate the three personal standards:

1.  Show Respect      2. Make Good Decisions        3. Solve Problems

Highland staff is committed to preparing your child for the 21st century. Communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills are developed through our Project GLAD® (Guided Language Acquisition Design) curriculum and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math).

About me…

My experience with Vallejo City Unified School District began when I was in first grade!  I am proud to say that I am a product Vallejo schools.  I attended Loma Vista, Dan Mini, Cave, Springstowne Jr. High, and Hogan Senior High.   As an educator for the past 24 years, I was an elementary classroom teacher, reading and math coach, Instructional Associate at Highland, and worked at the district office as teacher leader/reform coordinator.

I firmly believe that every child can learn and that high quality education is the foundation for success in our society.  In the elementary years, literacy in language and mathematics are important building blocks for success in the secondary grades.  With high expectations, learning is attainable through engaging lessons and real world applications in a safe and supportive environment.

As principal of Highland and a community member of Vallejo, I am fully committed to working cohesively with our wonderful parents and talented, dedicated staff towards achieving both our district and school’s vision and goals. Your involvement is highly encouraged. If you’d like to visit or volunteer, please see our office staff. I look forward to another year of progress, learning, and fun!

In your service,

Amy P. Parangan
